Join us as a Middle Backend Developer to design APIs, data models, and services that stay reliable under real production load. You will implement business logic, integrations, and background processing for web and mobile products — working closely with frontend, mobile, and QA engineers in a remote-first delivery team. We value engineers who write clear APIs, think about edge cases, and care about observability from the first deployment.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement REST or GraphQL APIs with Node.js and TypeScript
- Model relational data with PostgreSQL, write migrations, and optimise queries with ORMs such as Prisma
- Implement authentication, authorisation, session handling, and role-based access patterns
- Build payment flows, webhooks, and third-party integrations (Stripe, email, storage, etc.)
- Develop background jobs, queues, and scheduled tasks for async processing
- Add structured logging, error tracking, metrics, and health checks for production services
- Write integration and API tests; maintain test data and fixtures for critical paths
- Participate in code review, incident triage, and release planning with the wider team
- Document endpoints, environment variables, and deployment steps for other engineers
- Debug issues across staging and production using logs, traces, and reproducible test cases
Requirements
- 2+ years of backend development experience on production systems
- Strong TypeScript or JavaScript on Node.js with async/await and error-handling discipline
- Experience designing SQL schemas, indexes, and migrations for real applications
- Knowledge of API security — validation, rate limiting, input sanitisation, and secrets management
- Familiarity with Docker, environment-based configuration, and basic CI/CD workflows
- Understanding of HTTP, status codes, idempotency, and RESTful resource design
- Comfort integrating external APIs and handling retries, timeouts, and partial failures
- Ability to estimate tasks, communicate blockers early, and deliver within sprint commitments
- English — Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher for technical discussions and written API documentation
Nice to have
- AWS, GCP, or Azure experience — compute, databases, object storage, or serverless
- Redis, BullMQ, SQS, or other queue and caching technologies
- Experience with Stripe, subscription billing, or marketplace payment splits
- Exposure to GraphQL, tRPC, or contract-first API tooling
- Previous work on multi-tenant SaaS or products with meaningful traffic
